Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga
Prenatal and Parent & Baby Yoga Classes - coming soon!
What is Prenatal Yoga?
Whether you’re currently expecting, or you’re hoping to carry a child in the future, yoga can help to prepare your mind and body for the journey – from pre-conception and pregnancy to labour, birth, and beyond.
While various styles of yoga can be adapted to be ‘safe’ for those who are pregnant, prenatal yoga classes are specifically curated to support and nourish your changing body, while also physically and mentally preparing you for the demands of pregnancy, labour, and parenthood.
A prenatal yoga class typically concentrates on strengthening the birthing muscles in the legs, hips, and bottom to build stamina for labour, while also incorporating relaxation and meditation techniques to help you catch up on rest and learn how to soothe your nervous system. Certain poses also work on activating and relaxing the pelvic floor muscles, which need to be strong yet supple for birth and beyond.
Benefits of prenatal yoga:
Builds physical stamina and mental resilience for labour
Strengthens birthing muscles in the legs, hips, and bottom
Eases tension and achiness in the body
Encourages length through the torso, creating more space for the breath as baby grows
Creates positive associations with potential birthing positions (e.g. on all fours)
Offers a time and space to connect with baby
Encourages strength and suppleness within the pelvic floor muscles
Improves digestive, respiratory, and cardiovascular health
Aids in balancing hormones, reducing stress, and improving mood
Calms and soothes the mind and body - aiding rest, recovery, and sleep
Encourages self-advocacy by helping you connect with what feels right for your body and mind
Provides tools for self-regulation and focus - which can be used during labour
Offers a safe and judgement-free space to simply be
Helps you meet other parents- and mums-to-be in your local area
…and so much more!
My journey to becoming a prenatal & postnatal yoga teacher:
I have always been fascinated by pregnancy and birth. For a long time, I have felt called to learn more and follow the sacred path of birth work, supporting strong and powerful women and parents as they embark on this life-changing journey.
In 2024, I spent a week on the beautiful West coast of Ireland immersing myself in all things pregnancy and birth, as I completed my 100-hour Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training with Alchemy School of Yoga. Soon, I will be heading back to Ireland to complete my Postnatal & Parent & Baby Yoga Teacher Training.
Prenatal, Postnatal, and Parent & Baby Yoga, all coming soon to Mersea Island - please get in touch to register your interest!
